LinkedIn Job Matching Error: IT Pro Labeled as Fitness Coach

  • by

This morning LinkedIn told me I would be a top applicant for a Fitness Coach role. I had to laugh. After twenty years in IT, my idea of exercise usually means crawling under my desk to hook up a new keyboard. That may count as stretching, but it does not qualify me to lead a workout class.

The match felt so far off that it made me wonder how these algorithms work. My background centers on infrastructure, security, and AI integration. I have never trained anyone in nutrition or fitness. Yet the system decided I could guide people through pushups and cardio.

It reminded me that technology, even smart platforms, can make mistakes. Recommendations often look impressive at first, but they are only as good as the data behind them. When the data gets mixed, the result can look a little funny.

That is why reading the job description matters so much. Titles can mislead, and automated matches can send your profile in directions you never expected. By looking closely at the details, you can save time and apply only to roles that fit your real experience.

I also wonder what happens in the background. Does LinkedIn send my resume to the right employers, or does the system flag me for jobs I would never pursue? A small error in matching could make a big difference in how hiring managers view my profile.

In the end, I will leave the coaching to the fitness experts. I am better at lifting servers than barbells. Still, the experience gave me a smile and reminded me to double check every listing before I apply.
