The Racquette., January 08, 1954 - Skating Competition Rules Announced
Mary Murphy and Robert Matte, co-chairman of the skating com-: mittee have annouhcied the rules' for the skating competitions'fori Ice Carnival. '
Skating competition for the Ice Carnival, will take place., Stunt Night, Thursday, February 11, at the Clarkson Hockey Arena. It; will consist of 8 events: .women's singles, men's singles^ women's; relay, men's relay, mixed doubles,; women's figure skating, men's fig- ure skating, and doubles figure skating.
1. The singles race will be four laps for men and three \laps for women. Each organization enter- ing will be limited to two entries.
2. The relay team, will consist of four members, with only one team entered from each organka- tipn or group on campus. Each person will complete one lap. Dis- qualification results from exchange of baton outside of limits set (blue lines). |
3. Each race will be allotted three false starts after which con- testants jumping the gun will be immediately disqualified. False starts will be signed by two whis- tle blasts.
4. Anyone who has earned a letter for hockey, or is on this year's Varsity or Freshman roster, will not be allowed to participate in any of the skating events.
5. Anyone intentionally pushing or tripping will be subject to dis- qualification upon vote of the of- ficials.
6. The doubles speed skating will be three laps, with no limit on the number of entries. The pair must consist of a boy^and girl and hand, contact must be maintained at all times.
7. Figure skating entries, either singles or doubles, are unlimited. Each contestant or pair of con- testants are limited to five min- utes.
8. All entry blanks must be sub- mitted by February^ at the latest. \No changes will be made; there- fore -.each organization must sub- mit pne alternate for .the trophy events with two alternates being allowed for the relay teams.
Points toward the Community Ice Cream, Co. trophy and the Lew- is and Co. trophy will be given for the relay race and the single's speed skating.
Entry blanks will be posted for those not in organized groups who wish to compete. These may also
be secured from the co-chairmen.
