Why wasn’t there a stream this weekend? Simple. We took the time for some much-needed deep cleaning. It’s something we try to do 3-4 times a year, and honestly, we were overdue. Keeping up with regular cleaning is one thing, but sometimes, you have to go all in and reset everything.
This wasn’t just about making the house look nice. Being entrusted with the care of a 200-year-old piece of history is an honor, and we take great pride in preserving it. This house has seen generations pass through its doors, and we want to make sure it stands strong for many more. Keeping it clean, maintained, and cared for is a huge part of that responsibility.
We started by moving all the furniture out of the rooms. After that, we gave the floors a thorough vacuuming to pick up all the dust and debris. The tile floors got a deep scrub with Pine-Sol, followed by Mop & Glow to bring back that polished look. Then came the carpets.
Steam cleaning is always the most time-consuming part. I have a secret trick for this—scalding hot water and Dawn dish soap. I don’t know what it is about Dawn, but it works wonders. It lifts dirt like nothing else and, as a bonus, kills mites, ticks, and fleas. If you ever rescue a dog that’s covered in fleas, give them a bath with Dawn, and it’ll take care of the problem in seconds. After steam cleaning, we treated the carpets with Earthworm Enzymes to break down any lingering grime.
Once the floors were spotless, we put everything back in its place. It might sound excessive, but in a house this size, deep cleaning is a big deal. It takes time, but it’s worth it to keep everything fresh.
Of course, we had other errands to take care of too. We ran out to refill family medications and called in the plow guy to clear the driveway. By the end of it all, it didn’t even feel like we had a weekend. Still, knowing the house is clean and in order makes it worth it.
Now that the work is done, we’re finally taking some time to rest. Streaming resumes on Monday, and we’re looking forward to getting back into it. Tonight, though, we’re kicking back and enjoying a well-earned break.
