Snowstorms, Rusty’s New Safe Spot, and Big Plans Ahead

  • by

How are you greeted when you get home? For me, it’s by three wonderful pups, each excited in their own way. No matter how long or stressful the day has been, their enthusiasm always makes it better.

This week was a rough one. I had to be at work by 4 AM on Wednesday, which meant skipping our usual stream and heading to bed extremely early. After working a 12-hour shift, I was completely wiped out when I finally got home. If you were wondering why we weren’t live, that’s why. Thankfully, this doesn’t happen often, and hey—who couldn’t use some extra cash?

Snowstorms Keep Rolling In

The weather has been absolutely insane the last few days. Snow, snow, and more snow. And just when we thought we had enough, they’re now forecasting 20 inches on Sunday. That’s on top of everything we’ve already gotten.

At times like this, I’m grateful to live in a 200-year-old house. If this place has stood strong through two centuries of North Country winters, I think we’ll be fine. But still, when the forecast calls for that much snow, you can’t help but worry a little.

Learning More About Rusty’s Cushing’s Disease

I’ve been diving deeper into Rusty’s Cushing’s diagnosis, and it all comes down to his body producing too much cortisol. Some of the symptoms he experiences include:

  • Drinking and peeing a lot
  • Hair loss
  • Increased flight-or-fight response
  • Weak muscles and low muscle tone

On top of that, he’s also deaf, has bad joints, and poor eyesight. When you put it all together, you really start to get a picture of what life is like for the little guy. The good news is that he can still live a long and happy life—he just needs extra care, patience, and love.

To make things easier for him, we set up a new safe space. I got a box, cut a doorway into it, added a bed and blanket, and placed it near our bed. This gives him a quiet retreat where he can feel warm, safe, and secure. Some of the other dogs have checked it out, but it’s clearly Rusty’s spot. Now that we know he actually uses it and loves it, we’re planning something even better—a custom nightstand with a built-in hideaway just for Rusty.

Valentine’s Day and Weekend Plans

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, but since I have to work, we’ll see what we can do to celebrate. Maybe we’ll shift things to the weekend and make a fun time out of it.

New Projector and Mobile Setup on the Way

Big news—we’ve ordered a new projector and more cameras! I’m determined to get a fully mobile streaming setup in this house so we can start working on more repairs. Being able to stream from anywhere in the house will open up a ton of possibilities, and I can’t wait to test it all out next week.

There’s a lot coming up, and I’m looking forward to getting back to work—both on the house and the stream. For now, we’ll take things one snowy day at a time.
